Roatan, the largest of Honduras’s Bay Islands, is celebrated for its white sand beaches and world-class dive sites. With warm waters (27°C/80°F) and excellent visibility (20–25 m/60–80 ft), it offers year-round diving opportunities. This guide highlights dive sites across three main areas: West End/West Bay, the north side (Sandy Bay to Camp Bay), and the south side (Coxen Hole to Jonesville).

West End/West Bay features drift dives like Texas, the sandy Mandy’s Eel Garden, and deep spots like Half Moon Bay.

North Side offers a mix of iron shore and sandy beaches, with sites like the Odyssey and Aguila wrecks, Dolphin’s Den swim-throughs, and dramatic topography at Spooky Channel and Key Hole.

South Side is known for reef walls, strong currents, iconic sites like Mary’s Place, shark dives, and vibrant soft corals.

Roatan’s popularity has grown, raising concerns about reef preservation. Conservation efforts led by the Roatan Marine Park and local NGOs include educating divers, controlling lionfish populations, and maintaining reefs through user fees. Visitors can support by following guidelines, donating, or volunteering with island initiatives.
